J'ai commencé à chanter dans un groupe qui s'appelait RedTime, quelques vidéos sur youtube existent. Mon premier single "Touch Me Hit" a débarqué sur les ondes en Janvier 1975. Par la suite, j’ai été contacté par Countdown qui m'a demandé de participer à l’émission. C'était la première fois qu'ils diffusaient en couleur. C’est là que j’ai rencontré AC/DC, d’où la session photos avec Angus, Malcolm et Mark autour du billard dans les coulisses des studios. Je ne me souviens pas exactement de la date, mais ça doit remonter au milieu de l'année 1975.

J'avais entendu parler d'eux et connaissaient certains membres d’AC/DC en écho à leur participation dans d'autres groupes. La première fois que je les ai vus ensemble, c'était au Countdown. Si George Young, le grand frère était présent ? Non, George n'était pas là, mais je le connaissais des Easybeats. J'ai eu d'ailleurs la chance d'enregistrer deux chansons signées Vanda/Young dont "Love Fever" qui fut un hit. J’ai partagé la scène avec AC/DC une seule fois, au Preston Oval. La musique à cette époque, c'était quelque chose. Les filles, les mouvements de foule, les gens qui montaient sur scène. C'était évident qu'AC/DC avait quelque chose de spécial.

Hélas, la plupart des archives Countdown ont disparu simplement parce que du contenu a été enregistré sur les bandes existantes ! C'est fou !

- When did you start your singing career ?

I started my profesional singing career in 1971 in a band called RedTime.

- You then joined the Countdown TV Show team. How did this happen ?

My first single Touch Me hit radio in 1975 and I was asked to perform on Countdown. Ironicly it was the first one broadcast in colour so still exists.

- Do you remember the exact date these pictures which Angus, Malcolm and Mark playing pool were taken ?

Can't recall the exact date, but mid '75.

- How was a typical "Countdown" shooting day organized ?

Typical Countdown day, arrive late morning for studio rehearsals, makeup, wardrobe, full show runthrough, them live to air at 6pm.

- What was your reaction when you first heard AC/DC? Did you first hear them at the Countdown TV show or you have heard them before ?

I knew of them as the guys had been in other bands. First met them on set at Countdown.

- Was elder brother George Young there during the AC/DC Countdown sessions? Did you know him ?

No George was not there. I knew of him from The Easybeats. Was lucky enough enough to record a couple of Vanda/Young songs, ""Love Fever" was a hit.

- Have you often headlined with AC/DC ?

Only that once at Preston Oval.

- Could you explain us what was an AC/DC concert like at this time ?

Pop music for all of us was chaotic at the time, loud, girls screaming and grabbing, and starting to learn about onstage technology which had been fairly simple in years gone by. It was obvious AC/DC were going to be something special.

- Do you know where have the Countdown TV show video archives gone ?

Most of the 70's Countdown shows were lost due to recording over existing. Crazy !
